Don’t know how long ago you asked this, sorry. But I think one of the reasons people have always gotten tattoos is as reminders of where we’re from, where we’ve been, or where we want to go. Tattoos are almost always visual symbols of things we never want to forget, for whatever reason. So, in short: remembrance and pride. It’s also a nice way, if you don’t live in your state anymore or are traveling, to sometimes meet folks who are from where you’re from!
